Rhodes International Airport or Diagoras International Airport is located on the island of Rhodes in Greece. The airport is located 14 kilometers south west of the capital city of Rhodes, near the village of Paradisi. Rhodes Airport is also near to the coastal resorts of Ialissos, Kremasti, Kritika, Sotoni and Theologos, within the Notio Aigaio area of Greece. It is the fourth busiest airport of Greece in total passenger volume. The airport entered operation in 1977, the year when its construction finished and replaced the old and insufficient airport situated in the Maritsa area. The airport covers a total area of 31,000 m² and with the undergoing expansion it’s going to be doubled. The new terminal, opened in 2005, will improve the services offered to charter airlines. The airport operates all day all year and many services are available: Car Rental Company currently operates at the Rhodes airport, there are also banks, duty-free shop, cafes and parking is available outside the terminal. The airport is well signposted and can be reached via the dual carriageway coastal road which runs all around the island. The city of Rhodes is a 20 minute drive to the northeast. The airport of Rhodes receives many daily flights from Athens and some charter flights from abroad, which become more frequent in summer. Flights operate from Rhodes Airport to a variety of mainland Greek destinations including Athens, Thessaloniki, Iraklio and Mykonos. The summer season is by far the airport’s busiest time, when dozens of scheduled flights arrive from EU destinations and many charter flights from Middle Eastern destinations. The airport is linked with Rhodes town with regular buses and taxis. Rhodes International Airport offers an alternative to flying in to Athens and then taking a boat or ferry to an island.
